This pattern from around 1903 is a curious mix of styles that allows its use in a variety of interiors. The birds and foliage are distinctly Voysey's however they are framed by an unfamiliar mix of design that suggests Mackintosh or Vienna.

"The Ballad" would be comfortable in almost any room and is custom scaleable for bungalow to grand manor.

Are there bats in your belfry? You can end all doubt of that with the addition of "The Bat Border" to your room. These lovely sleepy time creatures of the night will certainly keep any thought of bed bugs away while you sleep tight under their watchful sentry. The soft colors of this moonlit sky with mists and clouds in shades of browns, mauve, and cream promote the tranquility for bedrooms, libraries or any room where a nocturnal feel is desired. This is a scaleable pattern and may be printed to your size requirements.

This design began life as a repeating pattern, and has been adapted into a border that would be quite happy to find a place in your kitchen or any room where just a bit of ornament is desired. Judging from the expression of the bird, the strawberries are of the hot house variety and are to be seen rather than eaten. Good for you, and too bad for the bird.

Bird and Thistle is an elegant simple pattern of repeating thistles with a rather regal bird to keep watch over your own domain. The earth tones and touch of bird color will combine well with either natural or painted wood. This border, like all our others, is scaleable to your requirements.

Boys Playing Marbles reveals Voysey's love of mediaeval and gothic design. That there are children innocently playing at marbles also suggests Voysey's romantic belief in a more perfect and proper world in that long ago time. This could be interpreted as a great looking backward after the then recent horrors of The Great War. Boys Playing Marbles could be a lovely addition to any child's room but could also be pleasing in a library or study.

This is a simple landscape frieze from Voysey's most prolific period. The gentle arching of the holly tree suggesting gothic tracery, and the mourning dove suggesting peace, both reflect Voysey's childlike perspective of an ordered world under a benevolent deity. This border would be appropriate for any room seeking an uncomplicated relaxing design.

It is not entirely clear why Voysey named this design Iolanthe other than the suggestion of waving watery wetland leaves that served as the place to which Iolanthe, the lead fairy character from the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta of the same name was exiled. Unlike the fairies of the operetta, the wallpaper Iolanthe is quite graceful. In shades of mottled blues, greens and yellows the fill and frieze make an elegant statement to almost any room. They may be used as a complementary set or separately as either fill or frieze. When used separately the frieze may be scaled to your requirements.

The Iolanthe frieze is 22.5” tall with a 15.14” horizontal repeat. The frieze is scalable when used alone.

The Isis fill paper and coordinating frieze is an early exuberant example of Voysey’s mastery of pattern design. It is from his large-scale early 1890’s output and both the fill paper and the frieze may be used independently of each other. The frieze is more demonstrably graphic and makes a clear enough statement to be used above a painted or paneled wall. The fill paper is grand though subtle when used alone and the ideal complement to the frieze when somewhat more opulence is desired. The choice of the name for this fill and frieze set is unclear but it may be speculated that Voysey had the poem Prothalamion by Edward Spencer in mind for a description of that part of the Thames still traditionally called the Isis in Oxford. In the poem the river is idyllically described.

“Along the shoare of silver streaming Themmes;
Whose rutty banke, the which his river hemmes,
Was paynted all with variable flowers.
And all the meads adornd with daintie gemmes
Fit to deck maydens bowres”

The Isis frieze is 24” tall with a 16.62 horizontal repeat when used with the fill paper. The frieze may also be trimmed at various places to use only sections of the design when combining with the fill. When not used with the fill the frieze is scalable.

This design debuted in 1893 in an article entitled "An Interview with Mr. CFA Voysey" in the first volume of what was to become the most important design periodical of the Arts and Crafts Movement, The Studio magazine. The pattern filled three quarters of the first page! The childlike medievalism of "The Minstrel" with its rich colors and simple repeating nature evokes a fresh and uncluttered view of a stylized English countryside. This pattern may be used as a border or may be scaled up to serve as a mural for any room where a bit of youthful enthusiasm is desired.

This design, like our Angelic Forest, dates from 1930. It is a bucolic nursery view of late 19th century rural England. "The Shepherd" was designed as a nursery frieze but can work equally well in any interior for the young at heart. Drawn with Voysey's ability to see with the eye of a child, all of the many subjects in the image are of equal importance and thus of almost equal size.

This is a variable scale image and has been printed in mural size as well as smaller border size.
